Dental Crowns

Demystifying CEREC: Your Ultimate Guide to Same-Day Dentistry

Most dentistry looks like dentistry. Our goal is to provide dentistry that is undetectable. Using advanced digital workflows, we replace existing dental crowns and fillings with restorations that look, feel, and function like your natural teeth.

When damage to a person’s teeth is extreme and appears beyond repair, we use porcelain or zirconia crowns—planned and crafted through precise digital technology—to restore the smile to an “as new” appearance. This is an extremely reliable technique for treating even the most severe dental concerns, including permanently replacing missing teeth to create a complete smile and a functional bite.

We are renowned for the quality of our work and the remarkable transformations we achieve using this technology. These treatments provide a long-lasting solution for major dental problems, typically lasting 20 to 30 years—making them as close to permanent as modern dentistry can offer.

How long does it take to fit a dental crown?

At Fredal Family Dentistry, getting a crown can often be completed in just one visit. Thanks to our state-of-the-art CEREC CAD/CAM digital technology, we can create same-day dental crowns right in our office—so there’s no need for multiple appointments.

Using this advanced technology, we prepare the tooth, take a precise digital impression, design and mill your custom crown, and permanently place it all in a single day. The result is a strong, natural-looking crown without the wait.

In some cases, a traditional dental crown may still be recommended. When this is necessary, the first visit includes preparing the tooth and taking an impression that is sent to a dental lab. A temporary crown is placed while the lab creates your final restoration, which is then cemented at a follow-up appointment.

What are the capabilities of crowns?

Crown and bridgework is a highly reliable solution for major dental problems caused by accidents, disease, or everyday wear and tear. At our practice, these restorations are planned and created using advanced digital workflows, allowing for greater precision, comfort, and predictability. Instead of traditional, messy impression materials, we use digital scans—no goopy impressions—to design crowns and bridges that fit naturally and function beautifully.

Major dental concerns can often be corrected using these techniques. Depending on your needs, restorations may be made from high-grade porcelain, zirconia, or porcelain bonded to high-quality metal. Stronger materials such as zirconia or gold are recommended for treating the most complex dental problems. When accidental damage results in missing teeth, broken teeth, or failure of old fillings, dental crowns and bridges provide a durable, long-term solution.

Many people experience unexplained pain in back teeth due to hairline cracks in the chewing surfaces. Digitally designed crowns can stabilize these teeth, relieve discomfort, and restore full function. In front teeth, older fillings may weaken the tooth structure and affect appearance due to staining or chipping. Porcelain crowns and bridges are ideal when veneers are not appropriate. For teeth that have undergone root canal treatment, crowns help protect against future breakage.
